The Qur'an begins with a short prayer, not a story or a law. Muslims recite it in every unit of every prayer, so at least seventeen times a day. It moves from praise of Allah, to a personal 'You alone we worship', to a request every person can make: guide us.
Sahih al-Bukhari 756: no prayer is complete without Al-Fatihah
